The Attack Roll
The Attack roll is one of the most common die rolls in the system. This roll is typically required when the character is trying to strike a creature with a Weapon attack. The attacker chooses either a Might Attack or an Agile Attack, depending on their skills and the weapons being used. The defender has a Defense Score.
If the character's roll of 1d20 + Attack Score >= Defense Score + 10
, then the Attack succeeds, and the target is hit! Otherwise, the character misses.
The character's Attack is calculated with the following formula:
Mighty Attack = Combat Proficiency + Might Modifier - Size Modifier
Agile Attack = Combat Proficiency + Agility Modifier - Size Modifier
Combat Proficiency
Combat proficiency represents a character's skill with physical combat. This is available as a Feat, but some classes gain this Feat for free, such as Weapon Masters and Monastic Masters. Characters with this Feat add their Proficiency to their Attack Score. Characters without this Feat add +0 for Combat Proficiency, creating a range of possible values between +0 (unskilled) and +5 (veteran).
Primary Score Modifier
A character's Might or Agility enhances (or diminishes) their ability to hit their target. After calculating the max Agility possible based on the type of armor being worn (Table 1, above), the character's effective Agility Modifier is added to their Agile Attack Score. Their Might Modifier is added to their Mighty Attack Score. This makes the range of typical values between -5 (weak or clumsy) and +5 (strong or nimble).
Size Modifier
A character's size relative to their target determines how hard it is for an attack to succeed. The Size Modifier to Attack is between -8 (Gargantuan) and +4 (Tiny).
